State Duma Deputy Speaker Petr Tolstoy proposed replacing US diplomats in Russia after the United States refused to issue visas to Russian senators to travel to the UN General Assembly.
He stated that visa non-issuance violates international obligations undertaken by the United States as the host country.
Tolstoy added that Russia’s response should be as tough as possible, since this is not about an ordinary visit to the United States, but about participation in the UN assembly.
“If they didn’t figure it out, then it seems to me that it is necessary to change part of the staff of the US Embassy in Russia to those who understand this, in the subtleties,” Tolstoy said.
A number of members of the Federation Council, including the head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, did not receive a visa to the United States.
